Educational Philosophy: Every tutoring session is a chance to shape a student’s intellectual and personal development. That’s why, along with addressing academic content, I also discuss and model skills like focus, empathy, and self-awareness. In a tutor-student relationship, we naturally see the tutor as having more power than the student, so I balance this power dynamic by prioritizing students’ options and voice in their learning journeys.

Subject Expertise: English Language Arts, Philosophy, SAT/ACT Reading and English/Writing and Language, College Essay Advising
Educational Philosophy: My philosophy of education is, first, to teach that which is useful. Second, and paramount, is to show students they can succeed beyond their limits. Eleanor Roosevelt said, “You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” If you help a student do something she thought she could not do, you have shown her how to live beyond fear.

Subject Expertise: English Language Arts, Reading, Writing, SAT/ACT (Reading & Writing Sections), General Math (up to 6th grade), and GRE (all sections), experience with gifted, dyslexic, learning disabilities, autism spectrum, and ESL.
Educational Philosophy: Students care more about what teachers know when they know that teachers care. Meaning, when students are placed in a learning environment where they feel safe, cared for, and valued, they are more willing to be pushed academically and grow. I am committed to centering student voice in the learning process, including students’ opinion in the learning process, and tailoring my teaching to best fit students’ individual needs.

Subject Expertise: English, Reading, ACT/SAT (Verbal Sections), English as a Second/Other Language
Educational Philosophy: As an educator, I believe that every student has the potential to excel and that learning is most effective when it is personalized, engaging, and holistic. My goal is not only to guide my students to reach their goals but to also develop confidence in their academic abilities and critical thinking skills that will assist them in their lives beyond the exam. My philosophy, not only in teaching but also in life, is rooted in fostering a growth mindset, which means I believe that anything can be developed through effort and perseverance. I also emphasize that testing is not only about academic skills but also emotional readiness. By fostering a calm and positive environment, I help students develop a mindset that they can carry with them into test day.

Subject Expertise: English, AP Literature & Language exam preparation, ACT English/Reading, and scholarship essay writing
Educational Philosophy: I believe every child grows at their own pace, and that true learning happens when students are given the freedom and support to develop in their own season. We should not confine students to rigid timelines or labels. Each learner enters school with a different starting point, and honoring those differences creates space for real growth.
I believe education should empower; it should help students blossom while enhancing their talents. Every child carries innate gifts the world needs, and our work as educators is to cultivate those gifts with patience, dignity, and belief. I am dedicated to creating learning environments where all students can thrive, no matter where they begin.

Subject Expertise: English Language Arts 8-12, ACT Reading and English, College Essay Writing
Educational Philosophy: I believe that we are all born with a yearning to learn and grow. A good educator will follow the lead of their students to facilitate their learning and give them a safe place to fail rather than simply handing them knowledge and hoping they can hold it all. That is the educator I aspire to be.

Subject Expertise: English, History/Social Studies, AP US Government, AP Psychology, AP English Literature and English Language, SAT and ACT Verbal, College Application Essays, and Study Skills.
Educational Philosophy: Relationships First! Students need to know you care and know them as people. Then, deep academic growth can happen. Each student is a unique individual with his/her own strengths and needs. Once we can discover those strengths and needs, learning can be tailored to fit that student best. Growth through areas of struggle can be the most rewarding; it is not always about what comes easily for us as humans. Students are at the center of everything that I do.

Maria
Subject Expertise: English Language Arts, Literature, Film Studies, Creative Writing, ACT/SAT Prep, and Theology
Educational Philosophy: When I consider my role as an educator, I’m reminded of Virgil from “Dante’s Inferno.” In the poem, Dante is navigating through the challenges in various worlds. Virgil spends his time with Dante answering Dante’s questions and explaining to Dante all that they’re seeing and experiencing in the different circles. Like Dante’s journey, the path to knowledge can be intimidating at times because it involves navigating through the unknown. Like Virgil, it’s my goal to be by your side, help you as you navigate your journey, and provide some helpful illumination to get us through the dark.

Subject Expertise: English Language Arts, SAT/ACT Reading and Grammar, College Essay Writing
Educational Philosophy: I became a teacher because I love helping people, and since improved literacy skills make people’s lives easier, my way of helping people is by strengthening their literacy and helping them express themselves more clearly and confidently. Connecting with students and finding ways to help them communicate from their truest selves genuinely brings me joy. Each tutoring session is more than a lesson- it is an authentic exchange, offering an opportunity for growth (and hopefully even a little fun) on both sides. A piece of advice I’ve always cherished is that if you find a job you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. In my 17 years of teaching, I have reveled in the truth of that statement, and my hope is that through improved literacy, my students will find just as much joy in their own lives.

Educational Philosophy: Education is something that should build you up, fuel your passions, and help you become the person you want to be. What we learn in the classroom now will impact our career and personal goals for the future, which is why I strive to ensure that every student feels confident and safe in his/her learning environment. I encourage students to discover their interests and talents while building their knowledge in the areas that they may struggle with. Lastly, I think it is important to note that struggle does not mean weakness, but rather a desire to grow.

Subject Expertise: Middle School Math, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB/BC, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Basic Engineering, ACT & SAT (all subjects)
Educational Philosophy: I work to create a learning environment where students feel safe to ask questions, try new ideas, make mistakes, and keep improving. I plan lessons from the student’s point of view by checking what they already know, breaking down challenging concepts, and using real-life examples so the material feels clear and relevant. I want students to feel engaged in what they are learning, so I build in chances for them to talk, explain their thinking, and practice in hands-on ways through activities, labs, or projects. I give feedback that highlights progress and effort, not perfection. My goal is for students to leave my class feeling more confident, more curious, and more ready to take on challenges independently.

Subject Expertise: Biology, Microbiology, General Chemistry, Middle School Science, Middle School Math, Algebra, Geometry, English, Writing, College Essays and Applications
Educational Philosophy: In every topic I teach, I believe learning should be fun and engaging, and I bring this positive energy to my tutoring sessions. Everyone learns a little differently, but I also believe everyone can succeed in any topic they choose with the right attitude and support. I tailor my tutoring style to each student’s unique needs and interests while empowering my students to think critically and draw connections between what they are learning and the world around them. Especially for science subjects, I try to minimize memorization and, instead, teach students to draw connections and see the big picture of how things are related within and between chapters and units. I will do everything in my power to set my students up for success, however they define it for themselves.

Subject Expertise: Physics, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Statistics

Vas
Subject Expertise: Physics, SAT/ACT Math, Algebra I & II, Trig., Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Economics/Finance
Educational Philosophy: I believe in striking the right balance between academic rigor (key concepts and theoretical models) and practical experience. Once a student understands the concepts at a deeper level, “practice makes perfect.” I encourage critical thinking and analyzing a problem by viewing it with different lenses and exemplifying with practical applications. I believe teaching to be a noble calling, and with proper guidance and encouragement from a teacher, students can achieve great goals.

Kelly
Subject Expertise: Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus 1-3, Statistics, ACT and SAT Math, and Computer Science
Educational Philosophy: My educational philosophy emphasizes a learning environment that is safe, reflective, and student-centered. I believe students learn best when they feel respected, emotionally secure, and encouraged to think critically rather than focusing solely on performance. Education should foster curiosity, resilience, and self-awareness, honoring individual learning styles while helping students connect new knowledge to real-world experiences. In mathematics and computer science, I apply this philosophy by breaking complex ideas into manageable steps, us\ing patterns and visual models to support abstraction, and normalizing mistakes as part of the learning process. By emphasizing reasoning, problem-solving, and thoughtful pacing over rote memorization, I help students build confidence and persistence, enabling them to approach technical challenges with clarity and trust in their abilities.
