Educational Philosophy: Every tutoring session is a chance to shape a student’s intellectual and personal development. That’s why, along with addressing academic content, I also discuss and model skills like focus, empathy, and self-awareness. In a tutor-student relationship, we naturally see the tutor as having more power than the student, so I balance this power dynamic by prioritizing students’ options and voice in their learning journeys.

Educational Philosophy: My philosophy of education is, first, to teach that which is useful. Second, and paramount, is to show students they can succeed beyond their limits. Eleanor Roosevelt said, “You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” If you help a student do something she thought she could not do, you have shown her how to live beyond fear.

Educational Philosophy: Students care more about what teachers know when they know that teachers care. Meaning, when students are placed in a learning environment where they feel safe, cared for, and valued, they are more willing to be pushed academically and grow. I am committed to centering student voice in the learning process, including students’ opinion in the learning process, and tailoring my teaching to best fit students’ individual needs.

Educational Philosophy: Relationships First!  Students need to know you care and know them as people. Then, deep academic growth can happen.  Each student is a unique individual with his/her own strengths and needs. Once we can discover those strengths and needs, learning can be tailored to fit that student best.  Growth through areas of struggle can be the most rewarding; it is not always about what comes easily for us as humans.  Students are at the center of everything that I do.

Educational Philosophy: Building a trusting relationship with students is the most important part of my philosophy of teaching. Getting to know each student as a human and as a learner while involving the student in conversations about their educational goals proves beneficial. I believe students learn best when they can make connections through real life conversations with their teachers. Establishing a solid foundation and relationship built on trust and respect enables quality learning.

Educational Philosophy: As a special education teacher, I have extensive knowledge of developing and implementing students’ accommodations, developing appropriate goals tailored to students’ disabilities, and collecting data to track goal progress. I take pride in finding creative ways to teach concepts to students by incorporating multi-sensory strategies to actively engage them in the learning process. I enjoy learning about students’ interests and hobbies and integrating them into my instruction to make the instruction more meaningful and interesting to them. Educational Philosophy: I believe that the most important part of tutoring is to help students feel comfortable, encouraged, and excited. Long after students may forget subject matter, they will remember how their teacher made them feel and who believed in them and helped them to believe in themselves. I center my teaching/mentoring around Maya Angelou’s inspirational words: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” True learning, engagement, and enthusiasm come from a place of acceptance, so our work in education is to help each student feel seen, heard, and welcome to be part of their own learning process.

Educational Philosophy: Education is something that should build you up, fuel your passions, and help you become the person you want to be. What we learn in the classroom now will impact our career and personal goals for the future, which is why I strive to ensure that every student feels confident and safe in his/her learning environment. I encourage students to discover their interests and talents while building their knowledge in the areas that they may struggle with. Lastly, I think it is important to note that struggle does not mean weakness, but rather a desire to grow.
